Hobbies/Passions: Throughout my life, music, dance, film and performance have been my greatest modes of connecting with people. When I think of all my greatest friendships, we connected through our love for an artist, our dedication to dance or bonding over a funny tv show. I spend a lot of time absorbing art and talking about how it alters my consciousness with friends. One of my favorite pastimes is “wasting” a day..
What was your path to yoga OR what has yoga brought to your life?:
The first time I was exposed to yoga was in 4th grade. I had a Montessori teacher who was very into meditation, silent retreats, telling epic stories and sometimes offered yoga in the afternoons. (His brother was also a famous actor.. The connection between the healer and the storyteller is ancient. Their purpose and intentions are not far from each other.) I would participate in his class to avoid doing school work, but I was frustrated that I couldn’t perform a perfect Triangle pose. I felt unsettled in my body the entire time, but when we reached Savasana pose I still felt accomplished.
Since a young age, I have been slowly building my movement vocabulary, spending most of my life training in various dance forms to release energy, channel my ancestors and spirits, and exchange cultures through art. Since graduating from UCLA in 2016 with a degree in dance, I perform when possible and orbit the circles of theatre and comedy. With years of experience in pilates, ballet and modern dance I can offer good tips to help you find your correct alignment. What is important to me on this ongoing journey with yoga is promoting a healthy, challenging practice and embodying the cyclical practice of seeing and being seen. In my class, we welcome the healing power of movement and bear witness to our bodies and emotions as they are today.
Favorite pose: Savasana Corpse pose and Sirsasana Headstand
